2012 Olympics - Women’s Football
I think many of us are mourning the loss of the Euro Championship, but never fear because 2012 Olympic football kicks off in London (and many other cities) in three weeks. The men’s game may be all about the Euros in Olympic years, but the women are sure likely to bring it and is what we’re looking forward to most.
The women’s matches will be played from July 25th to August 9th. Yes, it starts two days before the opening ceremony. There are three groups made up of four teams. Group E: Great Britain, New Zealand, Cameroon, Brazil. Group F: Japan, Canada, Sweden, South Africa. Group G: United States, France, Colombia, North Korea.
For a schedule of the group games, find it here. Highlights include Great Britain vs. Brazil on July 31st, Japan against Sweden on July 28th and the U.S. vs. France to open their group on July 25th. The U.S. have won the gold in three out of four Olympics, but they were beaten in the final of the World Cup last year by Japan. Both sides will surely be the favorites this year.
