DFB-Pokal: Round One Results

In the last four days 64 German clubs have competed in the DFB-Pokal, the country’s knockout competition and second most prestigious trophy in Germany, and there were quite a few upsets. While clubs like Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Schalke, and Bayern Munich all got through relatively easily, six Bundesliga sides were knocked out of the competition: Hoffenheim were battered 4-0 by Berliner AK of the fourth division, Werder Bremen lost 4-2 to Preussen Münster in extra time (thanks to American Matt Taylor’s hat trick), and Nürnberg, Hamburg, Frankfurt, and Fürth were all also knocked out. That’s one-third of the Bundesliga losing in the first round! The second round commences October 30th.
