German Clubs Win in Champions League
The Bundesliga clubs historically haven’t had the best time in the Champions League. With Borussia Mönchengladbach getting knocked out in qualifying, it looked like there may be more heartbreak in store, but so far Schalke and Dortmund have both opened the group stages with wins. Schalke bested Greece’s Olympiakos 2-1, although they should have had more goals after a wrongly disallowed goal and a missed penalty. Dortmund also missed a penalty in their match against Ajax, but Lewandowski was the hero in the 88th minute, securing three points in the Group of Death. Both clubs will be happy with the results but will be wary of the powerful teams in their groups they still have left to play. [Photo Credit: Getty]
